Behind The Scenes
DMD 495 Seminar
Adding Interactive Elements
In order to make the Voices of Change exhibit more media driven, Dr. Tom German enlisted his own senior seminar students to help add interactive components that could be used in the gallery. Below are the various projects that resulted from the class.
About Alissa’s Project
Melody Quest is a game designed for mobile devices that incorporates scavenger hunt, gallery guide, and trivia elements. It is intended to enhance visitor experience while attending the Voices of Change gallery exhibit by engaging the visitor through gameplay and tests of knowledge, and by helping the visitor better understand the gallery’s content. By playing Melody Quest, the visitor can reveal a number of related songs upon completing the game.

About Joe’s Project
Joe’s project was to create a documentary-style interview video to play on the website and in the Louis O. Palmer Gallery during the Voices of Change exhibit. The video has short 1-to-2-minute segments featuring the artist interview, along with images to go along with talking points. The goal for this video was to give the artists a platform to talk about their own project and why it was important to them, as well as giving another medium for visitors to learn information about each project.
About Parker’s Project
Parker’s project is a music visualizer that showcases the emotional feeling of a song. Based on the energy levels of the music, the software can display those levels and also estimate what emotion the song can possibly relate to. It relates to the Voice of Change because it allows for the visualization of how music can change us on an emotional level.

About Caleb’s Project
Caleb’s project looks at how many different types of accessibility options can be created and easily added to a website. With these options, it makes it easier for all users, with or without impairments, to use the website, along with everyone else. His project shows how useful these features could be in a kiosk setting.
